Food safety | No discussion about state of emergency yet

JOHANNESBURG – While children continue to fall sick due to suspected food poisoning, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says there are no plans to declare a state of emergency just yet.
Throughout the country, South Africans are concerned by reports of contaminated being sold to them.

The sale of unsafe products, some containing harmful chemicals and allergens, has raised alarm among health experts, prompting urgent action from government authorities.
“We need scientific evidence before we arrive there because we can call it emotional,” he said.
“People are angry. They’re hurt, we’re all hurt.”
